I just came across this interesting and helpful article by Dr. Judith Orloff (May 9/2011) with tips on how you can remember you dreams so that you can find their meaning.

Tapping the Power of Your Dreams: Strategies for Remembering and Interpreting Their Life-Changing Messages (VIDEO)

As a psychiatrist, I believe that dreams provide extraordinary insights into improving your health, relationships and career. I consult my dreams for all important decisions using a technique that I describe in “<http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0307338193/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=marliescreati-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0307338193 target="_blank">Emotional Freedom” and below. You’d be surprised by the invaluable advice that your dreams give, either spontaneously or on request.

Science magazine reports that sleeping on a problem, which results in “unconscious thought,” can lead to smarter decisions than over-thinking — especially when it comes to important choices. For instance, if you’re going crazy analyzing the pros and cons of a relationship, the Science study suggests that that won’t get you very far; rather, it proposes that you think less and sleep on the dilemma, to give your subconscious an opportunity to solve the problem.

I subscribe to the “sleep on it” school of decision-making, which involves drawing on the wisdom of dreams. Why do we dream? To find answers, resolve emotional conflicts and discharge negativity, as well as to stabilize our biochemistry and mood. However, to me, another interesting question is why we wake up. Native American and Aboriginal cultures revere dream-time over waking life; they base tribal law on information obtained there. The Maoris believe that when we die, we return to the dream world. Kalahari Bushmen say, “There is a dream, and it is dreaming us.” So, in your own life, your dreams can contain advice that goes beyond the Annals of Internal Medicine.

How To Remember And Interpret Your Dreams

I recommend the following 5 strategies to remember your dreams:

Keep a dream journal and pen by your bed.

Write a question (just one!) in the journal before sleep.

Wake up slowly. In the morning, spend some quiet moments remembering your dream. Luxuriate in a peaceful feeling between sleep and waking, what’s called the “hypnagogic state.” Those initial moments provide a doorway.

Record your dream immediately; otherwise it will evaporate. You may recall a face, object, color, scenario, feeling or emotion. It doesn’t matter if it makes perfect sense. Do not censor anything. Nothing is too “strange” or “weird.”

See how the dream answers your question. Act on this answer and see if your life improves.

Try this every day for a week. Keep at it. You are programming your subconscious to remember. Soon it will become second nature to you.

How do you interpret dreams? One key is to notice the most highly charged emotion in the dream — for instance, anger, fear or joy. Next, ask yourself, “Where in my life am I feeling these emotions?” Then, consider how you can heal the situation or else celebrate a success. In addition, here are some common dreams and their interpretations.

A Guide To Interpreting Common Psychological Dreams (From Emotional Freedom)

Dreams About Your Fears, Anxieties and Insecurities:

You’re standing buck naked in front of a group of people who are pointing at you.
Meaning:You feel exposed, vulnerable and unsafe about a situation.

You’re taking a test and panic that you don’t know the answers.
Meaning: You feel unprepared to meet a challenge or solve an emotional dilemma.

You’re being chased by a horrifying pursuer.
Meaning:You’re trying to escape a scary person or emotion (past or present) instead of facing it.

You lose your wallet and are stranded without credit cards or cash.
Meaning: You’re afraid that you’re without the emotional resources to cope with one or more aspects of your life.

Your teeth fall out, crack or decay.
Meaning: You feel that a source of power has been taken away in your life; you can’t bite back or assert your needs in a situation. Also you may experience a lack of energy or nurturing from others. (Without strong teeth, it’s hard to chew food and assimilate its nutrients necessary for vitality).

You’re wandering around lost, unable to find your way home.
Meaning: You lack a sense of inner or outer direction. You don’t know how to get back on track with a situation or relationship and don’t feel emotionally supported.

Dreams Affirming Your Strengths, Emotional Achievements and Largeness of Spirit:

You’re able to fly, a natural, joyous feeling.
Meaning: You’re empowered, creative and unfettered by the drag of negativity.

You triumph over impossible odds; for example, there is a flood, landslide or a war and you survive.
Meaning: You have the courage, strength and heart to overcome difficult emotional obstacles.

You give birth or watch someone give birth.
Meaning:You’re coming into your own, thriving. It’s a time of new beginnings for relationships, career or revitalizing health and emotions.

You feel vibrant, eating (not overeating) a delicious meal in good company.
Meaning: You’re nourishing yourself emotionally, and others are nourishing you.

You’re getting married or celebrating someone else’s wedding.
Meaning: You’re becoming whole! Your physical, emotional and spiritual sides are becoming integrated. You’re ready for more of an emotional commitment to yourself, your work or another person.

Dreams let you pinpoint an emotional conflict so that you can solve it. For instance, if you’re standing naked before a group of jeering co-workers, ask yourself, “Might I have feelings of being exposed or berated at work?” Then take steps to feel more protected in that environment. Or if, in a dream, you’re wandering aimlessly, consider, “Where am I lost in my life, and how can I find my way?” Also, it’s crucial to honor the messages of encouragement that dreams send. Emotional freedom comes from removing blocks as well as acknowledging your own clarity and power.

People often ask if Dream Counseling is better done in person or by phone and which one is better?

How can I actually assist somebody via the phone with a dream-related question? And it appears the answer is both simple and surprising. Recently a young man phoned, and asked if I could help him with a family-related dream that he couldn’t seem to let go of. After a short conversation and dream description, he spontaneously talked about his associations, past family problems, and various feelings that the dream has evoked. Finally he expressed great appreciation, and further told me that the insights obtained through me acting as a “dream-window” were further enhanced by the fact that he and I had never actually met, resulting in a non-threatening objective environment for him. The result – a new enhanced insight into his feelings, guilt, and anxieties regarding his long-term family relationships. He now hopes that the dream, now better understood and acted upon, will have lost it’s power over him, and should now also fade from his consciousness as well as future dreaming.

We started the conversation as complete strangers, but by the time of our friendly goodbyes, some safe and trustworthy feedback has resulted in a new personal insight for a young dreamer.

Is telephone dream counseling possible? Judge for yourself!

Why do we have nightmares and how can we stop them? Part of the problem is that “We take our problems to sleep and we work through them during the night”. By taking care of your nightmares while awake, helps eliminate them from our sleep.

In today’s Globe & Mail newspaper in the “Social Studies” section was this small blurb from the Wall Street Journal. I could not find the article online, so I am copying it from the printed newpaper.

” ‘We take our problems to sleep and we work through them during the night,” says Rosalind Cartwright, an emeritus professor of neuroscience at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, who has spent nearly 50 years studying sleep and dreams. Her new boo, The Twenty-four Hour Mind, explains that the mind latches on to some thread of unfinished emotional business from the day. Then, in REM sleep (the rapid-eye movement period when most dreaming occurs), it calls up bits of older memories that are somehow related, and melds them together. ‘That’s why dreams look so peculiar. You have old memories and old memories Scotch-plaided into each other,” she says. ‘They are emotional connections rather than logical ones.” Usually, people work through the most negative emotions first, and their dreams become more positive as the night goes on … But nightmares interrupt that process; people usually wake up before the frightening emotion is resolves, so the dream keeps repeating.”

So how do I stop a nightmare from reoccurring, is the logical question? The answer is: It is quite simple to stop a nightmare, but not as easily done alone as we need some help confronting the “monster”. Once we understand the meaning of the nightmare and have confronted the “monster” in the waking state, we have taken away its power and the nightmare will not return.

Talking to a dream guide about your nightmare can free you from it. Give it a try today. We offer a free 20 minute phone introductory consultation.

Earlier this year I came across this interesting article on CNN about what dreams really mean. We all have dreams, but we don’t always remember them. The dreams we remember have a message for us, the ones we can’t recall have served their purpose and have let them go.

The key thing to remember is that the same dream can have a totally different meaning for another person. Dream interpretation is very specific to each individual, so books that tell you the meaning of a dream symbol might not always be accurate depending on your life experience with that symbol.

Here at Dream Guide we don’t interpret your dream, rather we guide you to interpret your own dream as you are the only one who can truly interpret your own dream. If you have repetitive and scary dreams, understanding them can completely eliminate them, so that they never come back.

What are your experiences with your dreams, we’d love to hear from you.

Recently my wife, Marlies, awakened from a normal night’s sleep relating what she considered a strange and untimely dream. Having just celebrated her 57th birthday, Marlies found it unusual that she should have such a powerful, visual, and emotional dream about suddenly becoming pregnant and giving birth to a beautiful healthy baby. Her first question was: “Mal, why would I, at this stage of my post-menopausal life, suddenly dream about babies?”

Of course, a conventional Freudian interpretation would probably view this sort of dream in a sexual perspective. However my observation and experience has clearly illustrated otherwise. While personal sexuality might be a factor in this sort of dream, I have found that universally baby dreams are subconscious inner statements regarding personal creativity, change, and growth. There are, in fact, no universal interpretations, because these dreams are by their nature subjective, individual, and personal. However by viewing “the baby” as a new and original creation, the deeper and personal significance of this genre of dream is amazingly easy to comprehend and work with.

I recommend a few simple steps;

Immediately recall the dream on awakening, and write down a short summary of the dream as soon as possible.

If possible, discuss the dream with your mate, or other close friend.

Focus on the emotion (s) that the dream, characters, format, etc evoked.

Ask yourself what associations come to mind with the dream imagery.

Finally analyze your “post-dream” feelings following steps 1-4. Is there a sense of change, growth, insight, release etc? Answers to serious/long-standing life traumas, conflicts, and crises often spontaneously appear thanks to your inner teacher.

I have found that following these few simple steps generally results in universal insight, liberation, and growth. This technique applies equally well to nightmares, violent, destructive and repetitive/reoccurring dreams. Who would have thought that getting pregnant, giving birth, and raising a baby could be the equivalent to a University degree in “Self-knowledge”!

Listen to dreams, blossom, flower and liberate your full persona!

A Note from Marlies:

The thing that struck me the most of the dream that I was fighting the idea of having a baby while I was dreaming. I tried to stop the dream from going in the baby direction a number of times, but it always went back to it.

When I woke up in the morning, I realized that the baby was not a real baby but a symbol of something creative and new was on the way and my dream was giving me a heads up signal.

How many times in your life has this terrifying question been thrown at you. But now consider what this accusation really means and signifies.

Whether it is spoken by: mother, father, sister, brother, priest, teacher, etc etc etc, the intention is generally similar —an accusation of being different or unusual from the socially accepted norm.

For example, if you happened to see an unidentified flying object slowly hovering over a neighbour’s house could very easily be accepted by mommy as only “imagination”, or “silliness”, or even “fibbing”! But perhaps the actual experience is real, and whatever the UFO might actually be, you really did see it!

Are you dreaming? I should hope so! Because, in reality, the act of dreaming is actually the ultimate act of creativity, Whether the dreamer is dreaming unconsciously (sleep), or consciously (fantasy) the truth is that the ultimate experience of human creative genius manifests through the dream. Without the dream there could be no evolution, no better future, and no personal spiritual development.

So the next time you are accosted by: “are you dreaming”? remember what this truly means, and proudly respond: “I sure hope so!”

Until the next dream,

Is it possible to dream that you are dreaming? And if so, what does it mean? Recently I experienced a very unusual and interesting nighttime dream. Although my dream itself was nothing unusual, it did offer me a new and potentially educational scenario and inner learning potential.

Without going into unnecessary detail, my “weird” dream began with me asleep. As I was sleeping, I became aware that I also was dreaming that a couple of acquaintances had accidentally blown themselves up resulting in the death of one of them. As my dream progressed, I increasingly became aware of my “dream-within a dream”, and attempted to prevent the activity and possible death of my friend. To make a long story short, I never succeeded in this attempt, and my”dream-within a dream” ended up actually occurring.

So what, you might ask? Is this psychic knowledge? Is this a warning? Or is this truly “nonsense”. For me, none of these potential meanings resonated. But this dream turned out to be truly significant and educational. Dreaming is such a subjective and personal phenomenon, that this dream for me proved to be a means of both philosophical and spiritual insight, resulting in a much improved knowledge of my own personal beliefs about free will and control/influence of significant others, EVEN IF I MIGHT KNOW BETTER! My “dream-within a dream” was actually was actually teaching me that I have no moral right to enforce my beliefs and/or will on anybody but myself…

And I learned this valuable lesson not from any formal course, lesson, or expert, but simply from dreaming a “dream-within a dream” paying attention, and acting upon my new-found inner knowledge! Every time you remember a dream, regardless of how small, silly, or seemingly insignificant the dream might appear, the potential is also there for new, true and deep personal insight and growth.

Please contact me if you too wish to learn more about yourself.

Do you realize that all of us are creative geniuses? That’s right. Every living breathing human being is a potential Einstein or Picasso and the route to that genius is our dreams!

Mal has discovered that by guiding people to work with their dreams, a whole new world of self-discovery and actualization is opened to each of us.

Your dreams represent an essential part and expression of who you are, and nobody has the right or ability to interpret or direct you and your life’s course.

Rather than interpret your dream, Mal works with you to remember, write down, contemplate, digest, comprehend, and utilize your dreams to develop a fuller sense of self, life direction and meaning.

In a sense, Mal actually dreams the dream with the dreamer, and then intuitively, analytically, and even musically teaches you how to synchronize your conscious and dreaming self. You are the only true dream interpreter, contact Mal today and find your creative genius.

Open doors
Open your mind
Become the full and true you.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Do YOU Know What Your Dreams Tell You?

Last night I dreamed I was driving one of those big honkin’ trucks that farmers, horse folks and lumberjacks drive – like a huge amped-up Ford 250. It was night black, and it had those dual rear wheels that stick out on the sides – a real don’t-mess-with-me kind of truck.

A big, nasty storm came up, and the wind shrieked around the truck and the rain slashed the air, but I was safe and sound inside. Enormous trees fell left and right like wind-blown matchsticks.

The road gradually became narrower and narrower. A couple of trees that had fallen to each side funneled me into a space so narrow the leaves and branches were noisily scraping the sides of my truck. Then a huge trunk appeared right in my path, and I had to do a full stop.

I looked back and saw that there was space to back up, but it was uphill and so slippery that I couldn’t get the truck to go – low gears or 4 big rear tires be damned.

Suddenly, I felt the whole truck vibrate and begin to inch forward, move forward, rush forward – as if it was impelled by some inward dynamic that made its surroundings completely irrelevant. And –*-blam!-*– I was out of stuck-mode and in the clear.

I was now standing outside my truck – which was now a new, sleek Toyota – looking in on my dog, Io (pronounced EE-oh), who was in my driver’s seat. Io was a mid-sized dog who looked like a small, delicate black and white Malamute, or one of those sheep dogs in the movie Babe, but with finer features. I had the honor of being her Human in the 90s.

Io was somehow lying on her back, with her lovely, soft, white tummy exposed, looking at me with her big doe-eyes in total bliss. I reached in and scritched (not scratch! Scritch!) under her throat, and she closed her eyes and did one of her signature doggie-snore-purrs.

As I did that, I simultaneously heard and saw a dog much like Io but with shorter fur and thicker neck, kind of as if he had a bit of pit bull in him.

He was looking at me intensely, growling and greeting all at once, like, “hey! Where’s MY pets and hugs?”

Then I was squatting beside him on the sidewalk rubbing his back and under his throat, and playing with him. He was a really happy dog, and loved to play, but got a little over-excited so I’d have to calm him down again. It was easy, and he was just a bundle of love.

I awoke feeling really happy and buzzing with a core-kind of affection for life itself. A sense of lingering wonder has permeated the rest of the day today.

WHY AM I WRTING ABOUT THIS and what does it mean for you?

Because I want to invite you to look at your own dreams and see what underlying messages they have for you. Maybe you don’t dream – that’s OK – I bet you day-dream! You can use them the same way!

Because there were certain really obvious elements in my dream that show me exactly where I’m at, what’s going on, and some underlying themes that have gigantic import. And I bet your dreams do the same for you. More about that in a moment.

You know, I’ll admit something to you readily – it isn’t always easy for me to do all the things I do. If my kids weren’t grown up and out on their own, I wouldn’t be able to do half of them. You’ll notice that the folks you see being so successful online either are single or have families who help with child care and office duties. I’m single and loving it after the years of diapers and teenage hormones and moodiness!

But sometimes I think I do way too much. At the same time though, when I ask myself what I could cut out of my life, my heart sinks when I think of letting go my EFT practice or my passion for creating EFT books, writing articles, creating sites and giving teleclasses. And to think about giving up my artwork? Ha! I don’t think so! It’d be like not being able to breathe!

So occasionally I get hung up in thinking about it all and I feel stuck. Part of the thinking is that I ‘have to do it all and do it all right now!’ or ‘I have to choose one or the other and focus.’ I get caught in those thoughts once in a while. That’s how I was feeling last night – stuck between 2 huge forces (the trees): EFT and my artwork.

Well, the mind is our biggest muscle! So when I feel stuck like that, it’s time to haul out the big EFT and bring that muscle back into training. But last night I didn’t. I did my Chi Lel Chi Gung and went to bed, figuring that the energy I had just drawn in would help it resolve. You’ll see what happneded in a second.

What did that dream mean to me? How do you pick apart a dream to milk it of its wisdom>

Well, there I am in my truck – my life-force-vehicle – huge, black (I think of black being the color of the Void of All Possibilities), powerful, strong, hefty, capable are words that come to mind for it – and I’m stuck! Between these trees! Huge trees, not little saplings – EFT and Art – and one more in front of me – my ego, limited thoughts and beliefs perhaps?

But all of a sudden, from the inside of the truck – my life-force – comes this compelling energy that doesn’t pay one whit of attention to the supposed blocks, and pushes me right through them into the clear! The blocks became substanceless, literally immaterial.

Isn’t that what happens when you stay true to who you are? You know you feel stuck, but you stay in your heart-space, tap a bit, stay calm, and ask yourself, “what would I prefer next?” And the next thing you know, you’re out of stuckness and into a clear space. Something lines up in the Cosmos that unsticks you and propels you into a new space – you and your Divine Self are aligned and congruent.

The next thing in the dream was the presence of my dogs. Well, in truth, I really had only one dog, Io. She was the sweetest Being anyone could ever conceive of, and came to me out of the blue one day and was my little angel for ten years. But that’s another story.

So now I’m looking into my truck seeing her lying there on her back. The truck is now a beautiful new Toyota 4×4 pickup – totally practical for a sculptor who has to schlep big paintings and rocks around – capable and strong but not a macho machine – and Io is lying there in a state of bliss.

If you were to look at her as a symbol of my feminine inner instincts (thank you, Samantha for that idea), she’d be the perfect fit. Io, indeed, did save me from myself many times when she was on this planet. To have her in my life-force vehicle doing her funny little half-snore, half purr was absolutely delightful.

But then the other dog! What a surprise that was! I never had the male counterpart to Io, so seeing him there wanting attention, too, was awesome – and to be able to play with him and scritch and be able to keep him from being over-powering or sharp-teeth-scary-strong was even better.

I awoke feeling like there were all kinds of possibilities for me that I never even knew about, and that if I could just keep that thought, and do my best to stay in that state, all would be well.

There was a lot more to the interpretation, but I know you’d rather think and find out about your own dreams and what they mean to you. We’ll do that very soon.

I admire the heck out of online personalities and coaches like Ali Brown, Kathleen Gage, Fabienne Fredrickson, Jim Edwards, Yanik Silver and others – seeing how far they have come from zero to star-status – and I appreciate their example and their excellent products. It’d be really easy to get caught up in trying to be just like them and try to do what they do.

But I question the follow-them mentality. Would it be right, comfortable, appropriate or even fun for me to do what ‘they’ do? Don’t you feel a little strange about taking every step someone else has?I do, but maybe I’m more of a rebel. That’s not to say courses and program have no value! I just really ask myself if what I’m following is really for me. Parts of it can be, parts not. You have to stay alert and awake.

I kinda like being just my regular old, lazy, renegade, irreverent, weird, creative, frank, no BS, what-you-see-is-what-you-get floppy-aloha-shirt and paint-stained old black shorts-wearing, media-creating, painter-sculptor-unusual newsletter writer EFT maniac self. I’m totally OK with that. How OK are you with Being You?

That dream made me see once again that how I am is how I am. Period. And no matter what I THINK, that eternal Beingness is not only OK, but it will always prevail. What a relief.

How inspiring and enchanting that is! To know that there is that Something inside of you that you don’t need to boss around, guide, compel or manipulate! And that automatically (when you allow it!) sets you on the right track again and again and again if you’ll just LISTEN to it and pay attention to its message and take the appropriate actions.

I want you to be that OK with who you are, too. I know darn well how easy it is to do a gradual slide into feeling stuck (angry, ashamed, sad, etc.) and feeling like it will last Forever – and hating yourself for how you feel – been there. As if it isn’t enough that you feel down, to hate yourself for feeling down – and then hating how you hate yourself – man, what a mess.

So, since I used love to do Dream Readings for people for years when I lived in Sant Fe, NM, I decided I’d create a new Series of Dream Teleclasses that last night’s dream inspired. We’ll explore what YOUR dreams are telling YOU – and we’ll get you through the blocks and limitations you’re dealing with in order to get you feeling high and strong and grounded and peaceful and excited and calm and inspired – all at once.

Stay tuned, and be prepared to be amazed and inspired and surprised by what your Inner Self is trying to say to you!
